The installation process to replace and add hundreds of electronic signs on SkyTrain's Expo Line and Millennium lines has begun and is one of many projects to improve pbadenger communication for the rail system.
TransLink officially announced today that the 33 stations on the mainline line will receive 140 new "Next Train" electronic signs in real time on platforms replacing existing red signs from the 1980s.
While the existing red signs only show one line of text, the new signs will show the arrival time of the next three trains, the time and the driver information messages.
These multicolored text panels are a significantly improved version of the Canada Line electronic panels and the new Millennium Line Evergreen line.
Signs will be installed over the next 18 months, starting with Edmonds and Lougheed Town Center stations.
"This is part of our plan to improve the customer experience," said Kevin Desmond, managing director of TransLink, in a statement. "We have listened to our customers and we know they rely on us to receive accurate and up-to-date information."

In addition, transit authorities will install new electronic signs outside the entrances to SkyTrain Station to provide users with real-time information on the next train and updates to the train. situation in case of interruption of the service. In total, 140 of these electronic panels will be installed.

Other upgrades to pbadenger communications systems arriving at these stations include 1,000 new speakers along the Millennium line and 320 loudspeakers at designated stations and entrances. The aging speakers of the Expo line will also be improved.
And to reduce delays resulting from the onset of an intrusion alarm on the platform, TransLink installs 265 cameras for guidance to reduce response times to intruder alarms.
In addition, 1,200 CCTV cameras will be installed to improve the safety and security of the train system.
These upgrades are funded by several parties. the federal government covers 50% of the costs, the provincial government, 33% and TransLink, the remaining 17%.
