Another blow for Huawei, New Zealand has blocked the use of Huawei 5G equipment in the country. Recently, in the latest development on US sanctions, New Zealand has also restricted the use of Huawei's technology for the next generation mobile data network in the country. In addition to the United States, Australia and some other countries, New Zealand has also joined the club.
This new position is revealed after Spark, a major telecommunications operator in the country, could not use Huawei's 5G equipment. The use of Huawei's equipment was rejected after the country's intelligence services rejected the proposal, citing reasons of national security.
Large Chinese giants such as Huawei and ZTE have been banned several times their services in the United States and other countries. Many countries have claimed that these companies send data to servers in China. Even close ties with the Chinese government is another reason that has motivated such decisions in different nations.
Australia took a similar step in August. The decision was made on US recommendations that the use of Huawei's 5G equipment makes the entire network vulnerable to surveillance or interference.
Even the Embbady of the United States in Australia said in a statement that, "The United States advocates secure telecommunication networks and open supply chains of suppliers under the control of foreign governments or undue influence." Now, the United States is also asking its allies and friends to make the same decision for the use of equipment for next-generation networks.
In response to these allegations, Huawei stated that they are studying the issue and will actively address it. They also added that Huawei is a private company and nothing is controlled by the Chinese government. The company said in a statement that "Like the G.C.S.B. noted, this is a continuous process, " and "We will actively respond to all concerns and work together to find a way forward."
US lawmakers have even expressed concerns about corporate activities in developed countries such as South Korea. While developing countries are constantly using Huawei equipment because of their unparalleled quality at an affordable price.
