Ontario Government Issues Cannabis Regulations for Retail Stores Expected to Open in April

TORONTO – The Ontario government has released a regulation that will guide the start of private cannabis stores on April 1.

Independent shops can be open daily from 09:00 to 23:00, but must be at least 150 meters from schools and bars for under 19s.

A market concentration limit of 75 stores per operator has been set.

Until April, cannabis can only legally be purchased from the Ontario Cannabis Online Store.

License applications will begin on December 17 and illegal cannabis retailers that were active after the October 17 legalization will not be eligible to receive cannabis licenses.

Licenses will not be issued to any person or organization badociated with organized crime, and applicants must demonstrate their state of tax compliance to prove that they are in good standing with the government.
