Nearly half a week has pbaded and the cunning river otter that once inhabited the clbadic Chinese garden of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen – and killed the majority of his beloved Koi – is still desire.
Members of the Garden, the Vancouver Park Board and the Vancouver Aquarium spoke to the media about what most people believe to be the last time since the beginning of # OtterWatch2018.
Members of the Vancouver Park Board confirmed that the animal had not been seen for at least three days and that the remaining koi were safe after being transported to the Vancouver Aquarium.
Vincent Kwan, executive director of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's garden, said that a total of 11 koi had been captured by the otter. He described this as an "emotional loss" and explained that Koi were important, not only as a decorative element, but also by their cultural value in the Chinese community.
Madonna, aged about 50, is one of the victims.
Garden staff also took the time to thank the Park Council and the Vancouver Aquarium for their help and support.

The park team thinks the otter has moved on and announced that the Koi would be sent back to the pond next spring, once they are sure they are out of danger.
The gardens have now been reopened to the public.
We are pleased to announce that we host V.I.K. (Very important Koi) guests here at #VanAqua. They quickly won the hearts of aquarists and we are happy to support @VanGarden and @ParkBoard during this rescue mission. # OtterWatch2018 pic.twitter.com/hL4vB1Uhdp

Future efforts will focus on changing the entry and exit points of the garden. A campaign to rebuild Koi's population could also be launched later.

And so ends the story of a smart otter, the Vancouver Park Board, and a now devastated Koi population. At least for the moment.
I'm leaving for a new adventure.
I will send postcards.# Otterwatch2018– Chinatown Otter (@ChinatownOtter) November 29, 2018
