Although SUVs have stolen the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, many automakers have brought their game – and some, not so much. But more on that later.
Almost instantly, the Jeep Gladiator has been successful. What is there to love? It's a hard and aggressive pick-up based on Wrangler, which is just cool. At the same time, the potential power offers of Audi and Volkswagen – the GT and I.D e-tron Buzz Cargo concepts have also won our hearts. Mazda unveiled the truly impressive Mazda3 sedan and sedan – now available with a 2.0-liter engine and a clever all-wheel drive – while the BMW M340i fills the gap between the standard 3-series and the future M3 with an impressive 382 power.
But they can not all be winners. Toyota has almost universally fallen out of favor with its dull Camry TRD, while Nissan's refreshed Maxima is no longer quite the same "four-door sports car" as it was. In fact, being a sports car does not guarantee automatic success: the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro is technically faster than the standard AMG GT, but the improvements it sees bring nothing really special.
