P.E.I. Green Party candidate Josh Underhay and his young son died in a "tragic accident," according to a statement released Friday night by provincial party leader Peter Bevan-Baker.

Underhay was the party's candidate in District 9, Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park.

The details of the deaths have not been revealed yet. His family asked for privacy.

According to his profile on the Green Party website, Ailing was also a teacher at Birch wood An intermediate school in Charlottetown and a pbadionate trumpet player.

"Josh has been a dear friend and colleague for many years, as a volunteer, musician, pbadionate advocate of cycling, and supporter of the Green Party," said P.E.I. Green Party Leader Bevan-Baker.

"He touched the lives of all who knew him, including the students he taught, his fellow musicians and party members."

He added that all party activities would be suspended for the rest of the campaign, which should end when Islanders go to the polls on Tuesday.

It is unclear how this will affect elections, particularly in the constituency of Underhay.

The other three major political parties on the island also announced that they would suspend their campaign activities for at least Saturday.

"Josh has brought humor, excitement and energy to every situation," said Bevan-Baker. "I just can not imagine how much we will miss him."
