The second week of the Overwatch playoffs marked the beginning of the action for the highest ranked team in the league. : New York Excelsior. With a stacked formation backed by MVP Jjonak of Overwatch League, Excelsior is not only a heavy favorite in this game but to win the entire league.
The Fusion entered the playoffs seeded last, and yet they are after the first round of matches. While their struggling moments were recoverable against the Boston uprising, the Excelsior would be much less forgiving.
The Philadelphia Fusion and the New York Excelsior will continue their series on Saturday, July 21 from 18:00 PST.
Card One: El Dorado
Philadelphia started with a statement on the attack, with Carp on Widowmaker sniping Ark on Mercy right next to the respawn room. This elimination was enough to push the payload beyond the arcade. Progress continued after Eqo fired at Ark in Hanzo, and the payload easily reached the first checkpoint. Thanks to Reinhardt de Sado, the Fusion headed for the second checkpoint just as quickly, but was stopped just after Saebyeolbe threw a push bomb on Mercy Neptuno. This stall, however, only prolonged the inevitable progression of the Fusion towards point 2.
Saebyeolbe found himself with much more success to defend on the last portion of the map, which led Carpe to move from Widowmaker to Brigitte. On this change, Saebyeolbe pbaded to Brigitte himself. Suddenly, it seemed like the Fusion was throwing itself against a defensive wall. During the overtime, Pine on Widowmaker managed to shoot at the deadly blows, allowing Philadelphia to clinch the promising attack.
The New York attack began very quickly, Pine running a huge flank around the entire Fusion team. Catching Philadelphia unconscious, Pine and the team managed to kill several victims. The Fusion was able to recover admirably given the situation, but was forced to abandon the first point after Pine returned with a Dragonblade. After crossing the second checkpoint with little resistance, a fierce fight erupted just before the goal line. The nonstop brawl lasted so long that New York has spent a lot of time at no time. Struggling to send enough people back to the payload on time, Excelsior ran back to desperately attempt one last attempt. But thanks to the Fusion that takes full advantage of the proximity of the point of appearance, Philadelphia surpbades them and wins a victory on a well-fought card.

Libero entered for Saebyeolbe and Janus entered for Mano in this map. Beginning with Gardens, Eqo found himself unchallenged in the skies of Pharaoh. Unfortunately for him, New York takes control first, Philadelphia not being able to take control until New York increases by 50%. From there, the Fusion increased control up to 99 percent before New York took over, shutting the Rocket Dam Eqo expertly and losing only Pine in the process. Philadelphia grabbed the point at the end to take the lead of the card.
On City Center, the Fusion took control first. But a Libero boosted by Pharah damage helped Excelsior to make a breach in Fusion's hand on the point, returning it with Philadelphia up 64%. The next thrust of the Fusion was long and it was lost, which allowed Excelsior to take the lead in controlling percentage. From there, New York just had to win one more fight to tie the score card.
Philadelphia has traditionally found success on the University's point of this map, by performing a composition of three tanks, and with a first pick on Jjonak they were able to take control first. Eventually, New York was able to recover through a self-destructing Meko that took Eqo and Neptuno into an uncomfortable position, followed by a bombshell on Orisa de Sado. A Hotba Self-Destruct that killed three players almost gave Philadelphia the instant win, but New York managed to snatch it into overtime. Their understanding of the point was too thin, however, and eventually the Fusion resumed to widen their lead in the first game of the semifinals.

Poko entered the 39 Alignment for Fusion, while Excelsior has traded a host of players with the most notable being Saebyeolbe for Pine. In attack, Philadelphia charged straight across the arch, up and around to approach the point from behind. Right away, the Fusion has jostled many members of the Excelsior and has gained tons of control over the goal. Both teams started throwing ultimates into the fight, but Philadelphia ended up cleaning with a Graviton Surge.
The Fusion was able to push the load on the deck before being officially pushed back from the goal, the Excelsior refusing to yield easily. Just as the clock was falling into overtime, the Fusion found itself overthrowing the castle door. From there, an Eqo Dragonblade helped Philadelphia to quickly make its way to the end of the map. Although it was not a smooth race, the Fusion managed to make a complete race.
With Philadelphia in sight of a 1-0 lead, New York takes its turn of attack. In a surprising move, Jjonak came out of spawn on Ana instead of his usual Zenyatta. Without its usual damage production, the first and second thrust of the Excelsior were handled quite easily. In conclusion, New York found its footing with just over a minute left on the clock thanks to two opening murders of Meko on D.Va.
Fight at the door in the second half of the map, New York ended up fighting against Philadelphia and the clock while They were trying to reach the second checkpoint on time. Just when the Excelsior seemed to have point B, the Fusion came back with all its ultimates and that was enough to fight the Excelsior for good. (19659004) Map Rating: Fusion 3, Excelsior 1
