Police: A man stabs 9 people at the birthday party of the infant in Idaho

BOISE, Idaho – A man who had been asked to leave an apartment complex in Idaho because of bad behavior came back the next day and stabbed nine people, including six children, at a birthday party, police said. Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia were injured. Boise Police Chief William Bones said Sunday that although the suspect is American, investigators found no evidence that the attack was a hate crime. Still, Bones said, it's one of several possibilities that remain under investigation.

Timmy Kinner was shown Saturday night at the complex, which is home to many refugee families resettled in Boise. Kinner, who is not a refugee, targeted the party that was standing a few doors from the apartment where he had been staying for some time, police said.

A resident of the complex had recently met Kinner, who was new to the area and needed a place to stay,

"We saw him saying, like, bad words and stab a kid and an adult and very hard and many times," said Esrom. He said, "I saw police clean things up, and then I went out," Fathi said. He said that the stabbed victims included three families, all friends.

Kinner, 30, was arrested near the scene and charged with aggravated badault and wounding a child. The investigators recovered the knife that he would have used in a nearby channel, said Bones.

Residents of the apartments and the rest of the community "felt raging," said Bones, and will need long-term community support. "This is not something that will happen in the days or weeks that follow … The level of some of the injuries will change lives in a very negative way," Bones said.

Mayor Dave Bieter condemned the stab wounds on Twitter.

"The horrendous attack of last night does not represent Boise," Bieter wrote . "Please join me in praying for the wounded and their families. We must unite to condemn this despicable act."

Megan Schwab, who works with the International Rescue Committee in Boise, said the organization was working to provide temporary housing,

For some refugees living in the complex, the attack revived traumatic memories of the war and the violence they had fled. The blood of the daggers reminded residents Ibod Hasn and Thado Aip of the terror they left in Somalia, they said Sunday.

Aip's son, Fathi Mahamoud, stayed by his side Sunday, sometimes sitting on the grbad his legs while he was watching the police at the crime scene.
