Chief Mark Saunders said the police were looking for a fourth person after a shootout that injured four people and wreaked havoc at the Raptors celebration held yesterday at Nathan Phillips Square.
Gunshots rang out at the southeast corner of the square around 3:45 pm. Monday, while the Raptors were on stage with dignitaries, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister Doug Ford and Mayor John Tory.
The firing encouraged people to scramble, causing a disruption in the region. Four people were injured in the shootings following serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police said on the same day they quickly arrested three people and seized two firearms. However, Saunders said Tuesday that the investigators were trying to talk to another person.
"We are always looking for someone of interest," Saunders told reporters Tuesday morning.
This person is described as a white man, between five and nine feet by six, with short brown hair and a thick build. He wore a white button-down t-shirt and was last seen westerly on Queen Street, Saunders said.
"There were certainly people out there who saw and would probably have no idea connecting the points that are the person we are looking for," he added.
He also stated that it appeared that the firearm used in the shooting was not among those that were seized on Monday.
"What we have seized now is not consistent with the evidence we have of the firearm that has been unloaded," Saunders said.
"When we look at the cases that indicate that a shot was fired, at first glance, they do not correspond to the weapons that we seized. We therefore potentially know that there is a firearm involved in this shooting and we are looking for witnesses to help us locate that particular person. "
The three people arrested yesterday are now all being charged with firearms, Saunders said.
