Canada finished the preliminary round at 5 and 0 and will meet the # 39, Australia in a playoff game tonight.

Team Canada completed its preliminary round routine with a 10-0 win over Hong Kong in four rounds at the WBSC Junior World Softball Championship. Mac Fischer (Teeswater, Ont.) Was the key player on both sides of the ball, firing four hits with eight strikeouts in the caster's circle while going 3-for-3 to home plate with a home run, a triple and two points of approach.

Hong Kong got the first hit of the match with a two-point single early in the first run, but that's all they managed to do. Meanwhile, Canada took the lead at the start of the run when Ryan Smith (Shellbrook, Sask.) Doubled and scored on a single from Isaac Lefebvre (St-Leonard-D'Aston, Que. ). A hat-trick from Fischer allowed Lefebvre to score, followed by a withdrawal that allowed Fischer to take the 3-0 advantage.

In the third inning, Noah Baker (Kitchener, Ont.) Started with one point and scored later before Fischer started a solo homer on the right court. Dallas Kipfer (Kitchener, Ont.) Team Canada (5-0) finished first in Group B and won two lives in the playoff round. They will travel to play Australia (2nd in Group A) in their first playoff game at 8:00 pm Pacific time on Friday. The other playoff matches will see Japan (Group A 1st) face New Zealand (2nd in Group B) at 17:30, Argentina (3rd in Group A) against the United States (4th in Group B) in 3:00 am and Mexico (4th in Group A) will play against the Czech Republic (3rd in Group B) at 12:30. The five teams that did not qualify for the playoffs will compete in the ranking round.
