Quebec girl and her 10-month-old baby killed by grizzly bear in Yukon

A mother and her 10-month-old baby were murdered by a grizzly bear outside their isolated cabin in the Yukon.

According to the RCMP and the Yukon Coroner Service, Valérie Théorêt, 37, and her granddaughter, Adele Roesholt, were killed by the animal near Lake Einarson, northeast of Mayo, on November 26.

Authorities learned of the death on Monday when Gjermund Roesholt, Theoret's husband, said that he had fatally charged and fatally shot the grizzly bear about 100 meters outside the family cabin.

When Roesholt returned home, he found the lifeless bodies of his wife and daughter inside.

The Yukon RCMP and the Yukon Coroner Service are investigating the deaths of two people following an alleged bear attack on November 26, northeast of Mayo, near the NWT border. Environment Yukon is participating in the survey. More information will be available soon.

The Mayo RCMP, Environment Yukon, the Yukon Coroner Service and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section are currently conducting an investigation.

According to Roesholt, the family had been living in the isolated hut since August and were blocking around the lake.
