OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS take a high playoff position after defeating the Toronto Argonauts 24 to 9 on TD Square.
It was a third consecutive win for Ottawa. The REDBLACKS are now out of service for two weeks after having already secured a pbad for the Eastern Final.
The defeat crowned a disappointing 2018 year for the Double Blue, which has not won a road victory this season.
REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell announced earlier this week that he would be resting a number of starters on Friday, including quarterback Trevor Harris. This allowed Dominique Davis and Danny Collins to demonstrate their skills.

Davis took advantage of the opportunity in the first half. The East Carolina product was able to gain momentum and looked impressive in the first half of the game for Ottawa. Davis teamed up with Dominique Rhymes for a pair of finishes, including a 44-yard long win to put the REDBLACKS in the red zone.
Ottawa was forced to expect a goal placement after the Argos defense went deep into its territory. These are the only points on the table of the first 15 minutes.
A single at the start of the second quarter would have allowed the REDBLACKS to earn four points, but the Argos were able to reduce their deficit with a 30-yard Drew Brown placement.
Davis returned to work with the Ottawa offensive, leading a stable bottom charge. His favorite goal was Julian Feoli-Gudino, finding the catcher for a trio of completions. The third capture was in the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown. Redblacks attempt two points after the middle finger was good, pushing them 12-3.
The Argos scored a long goal 45 yards before the end of the quarter, bringing the score to 12-6 at halftime.
Davis had 220 yards pbading in the first period.
Both teams changed sides in the second half with McLeod Bethel-Thompson taking over for the Argos and Danny Collins for the REDBLACKS.
The boatmen opened the third quarter with a pair of impressive games back to back. Running back Brandon Burks climbed for a 34-yard lead in the opening game. At the next game, Llevi Noel ran for 25 yards after the restart to establish the goal and goal of the Argos.
The Ottawa defense managed to stop the Argos in their path and force them to settle for another goal.
It was as close as the double blue would be when the REDBLACKS started moving away in the third quarter.
Lewis Ward extended his CFL goal sequence to 48 by dividing the 32-meter amounts.
The Ottawa defense then intercepted back defender Rico Murray – his fifth pick of the season leading the championship – to put the ball back in the hands of the offensive.
The REDBLACKS made the most of the turnover by giving the ball to Mossis Madu three times. The attacking midfielder plunged one meter into the end zone to end the series and give the REDBLACKS a 24-9 lead in the last 15 minutes.
Both teams were dropped from the scoreboard in the last quarter.
The REDBLACKS will remain in place until November 11, when they will host the winner of the Eastern semifinal between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the BC Lions.
