Reid helps Canada beat Guadeloupe in Concacaf U-20 championship

BRADENTON, Fla. – Second-half substitute Adonijah Reid scored a decisive goal in the 79th minute. Canada defeated Guadeloupe 2-1 on Sunday in their second game of the Concacaf Men's Under-20 Championship.

Captain Mathieu Choiniere opened the scoring in Canada 1-0, in seven minutes.

But Luther Archimede scored for Guadeloupe, tied in the first minute of the second period.

The tournament will serve as a regional qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland next year.

Canada opened the test on Thursday with a 4-0 win over Dominica and six points in two games to finish atop Group D.

Canada has failed to qualify for the last five U20 World Cups. He appeared at the tournament in 2007 as a host country, having lost all three matches in the preliminary round.

The Canadians qualified in 1979, 1985, 1987, 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2005, and their best result in 2003, when they lost 2-1 in the quarter-final against Spain on a goal Golden.

The field for the recently expanded Concacaf U20 tournament is divided into six groups. The six winners of the group qualify for a second stage of the round robin with two groups of three teams. The top two players from both groups will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The winners of both groups will play for the North and Central America and Caribbean crowns.

Canada faces Panama on Tuesday.
