INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Ryan Bader is the first man in Bellator's history to simultaneously hold titles in two divisions after a catastrophic arrival by Fedor Emelianenko.
The heavyweight title match and the grand prix final were the main event of the Bellator 214 show at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
Emelianenko (38-6 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) quickly made it to the center early in the fight, his right hand armed and ready to shoot. Bader was light on his feet, coming in and out of the waiting area, waiting for the opportunity to attack.
When that moment came, Bader (27-5 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) made a leap forward with a devastating left hand that knocked Emelianenko to the ground. While the fight was essentially over with the first shot, Bader finished with a precise right hand and some extra hammer blows before referee Mike Beltran could step in at the 35-second mark of the opening lap. .
Just like that, the story was made.
