Samsung has announced a new family of SSDs for those who are not quite ready to upgrade to PCIe NVMe or who have a desktop or older laptop that only supports SATA storage. Discover the 860 QVO family, available in capacities of up to 4TB.
According to Samsung, the 860 QVO family uses the 4-bit V-NAND MLC flash, a Samsung MJX SSD controller, and is available in standard 2.5-inch format. Speeds up to SATA-III are supported, with sequential reads and writes at 550 MB / s and 520 MB / s, respectively. Random read and write speeds are indexed at 97K and 89K IOPS respectively.
To further improve performance, the amount of LPDDR4 DRAM memory built into each SSD is variable. The 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models ship with 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB of DRAM, respectively. Samsung has also equipped SSDs with its exclusive Intelligent TurboWrite technology, which increases write speeds during data transfers. Intelligent TurboWrite uses the "idle" capacity of each SSD drive and does not affect the drive's endurance. Speaking of endurance, SSDs have a nominal capacity of 360 TB, 720 TB and 1440 TB (total number of bytes written).
These figures will not challenge the fastest NVMe PCIe SSDs on the market, but they do not need to know the price that these products will reach. Samsung says the entry-level QVO 1,880 QVO will cost only $ 149.99, while the 2TB SKU will cost you $ 299.99. The huge 4TB SKU is priced at $ 599.99.
According to Samsung, the 860 QVO family benefits from a 3 year warranty and will be available for purchase from December 16th.th.
