Sallie Beavers, marine ecologist, of Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park, said Wednesday that octopuses were about the size of a green pea.
She thinks that it was probably octopus day or night, two species that are commonly found off Hawaii. They can reach 5.5 kg in adulthood, with an arm span of one meter.
The scientists discovered them months ago, but the US Department of the Interior has highlighted them this week by posting a photo of it on social media.
The baby octopuses hide under logs and other floating debris until the age of a few months.
Beavers say that one of them has injected a tiny bit of ink when they rejected it in the ocean.
