Shane McMahon has been declared the winner of the WWE World Cup at Crown Jewel and won the "World's Best" title in Riyadh with a win against Dolph Ziggler on Friday.
It was a tournament involving Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, The Miz, Jeff Hardy, Seth Rollins, Jeff Hardy, Dolph Ziggler and Kurt Angle, but it was McMahon who unexpectedly triumphed.
Here's how everything happened:
FIRST ROUND MATCHES
Rey Mysterio def. Randy Orton: Randy Orton controlled the game for the most part, but it was Rey Mysterio who won the match. At the start of the match, Orton made a stopped kick on Mysterio to take control. He stayed about the same because Orton also countered Mysterio's 619 attempt with a move that seemed certain of a knockout. However, Mysterio performed a rolling pin and knocked Orton out.
Miz beats Jeff Hardy: The Miz stunned Jeff Hardy with a series of attacks early in the game. Desperate to win, the Miz even tried to put Hardy's feet on the rope when placing the pin but the referee spotted him and stopped the count. Hardy tried to take advantage of the situation to be countered by The Miz and lose the match.
Seth Rollins beats Bobby Lashley: There were no surprises here. It was supposed to be Seth Rollins vs. John Cena, but information suggests that Cena refused to go to Riyadh for the event due to recent controversy in Saudi Arabia. Lashley quickly took command and put pressure on Rollins, but the reigning champion of the Intercontinental and Raw Tag Team had resilience on his side. He stayed in the match, cashed Lashley's charge and locked him to get the win.
Dolph Ziggler def. Kurt Angle: Kurt Angle, eager to show that his age had not done any damage, was well beaten for much of the match, but towards the end, he ran out of fuel. Ziggler dodged the Angle charge and sent it into the ring. It was an easy win for Ziggler after that.
FINAL HALF
The Miz beats Rey Mysterio: Mysterio had already been bruised and injured as a result of Randy Orton's attack after the match. It was obvious then that The Miz was targeting Mysterio's ribcage to make things worse. However, Mysterio showed his fighting spirit but a zealous movement of the top rope became his ruin. While Mysterio made the movement of the upper rope, the Miz knelt down, inflicting a painful landing on Mysterio. The Miz immediately went for the pin and won the match.
Dolph Ziggler beats Seth Rollins: It was a revenge for Ziggler. Rollins won the Ziggler Intercontinental Championship. Rollins had won the Ziggler team championship but it was Ziggler who qualified for the World Cup final, competing for the title of "Best of the World".
FINAL
Shane McMahon defeats Dolph Ziggler: It was supposed to be the Miz against Dolph Ziggler, but an injured Miz opened the way for McMahon, who then won the crown. Before the match started, the referee threw Drew McIntyre out of the ring while he was mingling with Ziggler's fights. Seeking to take advantage of the situation, the Miz went to attack Ziggler and injured his leg.
With the Miz injured, referee Ryan Tran said that he was giving the title to Ziggler by forfeit and that he had come here, Commissioner McMahon of SmackDown. McMahon had previously announced that any SmackDown player would qualify for the final and that defeats would be fired from the mark. In his obsession with maintaining Raw's supremacy over Raw, McMahon replaced Miz to take the place of the Miz and there was a new confrontation in the final.
Ziggler, exhausted by the battle, had almost the victory in his hands, but McMahon not only fought, but executed his gesture to perfect in order to obtain a shocking victory.
