Snow moves to southern Manitoba heading to Winnipeg

Winnipegers have not had a lot of snow to shovel this season, but that's coming.

A moving system in southern Manitoba should give enough to make it look a bit more like Christmas, said CBC meteorologist John Sauder.

The snow began in western Manitoba Tuesday night and is expected to reach Winnipeg and the Red River Valley at noon Wednesday, which is expected to continue in the evening, Thursday and Thursday.

"I'm expecting a 3 to 5 centimeter band from here Wednesday night, and then an extra 2 or 3 cm on Thursday," Sauder said.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement covering the southwestern part of the province, where some locations could see up to 10 cm when the system is installed. Also, there is a chance of freezing rain on Wednesday.

In November, only three inches of snow remain in Winnipeg. The average for the month is 20 cm, Sauder said.

The areas just north of the city, closer to Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba, were much more affected than this year.

Selkirk was dropped 30 cm on top in early November and nothing really melted, Sauder said.
