BEREA, Ohio – Hue Jackson's mandate with the Cleveland Brown has failed. It's finally over.

The team fired its coach on Monday, ending a period of unprecedented futility in NFL history. Jackson, who went 3-36-1 in two seasons and more, was fired Monday by chief executive John Dorsey, a person familiar with the ruling at the Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not yet announced the planned move.

Jackson's shots came one day after the Browns (2-5-1) lost their 25th straight game on the road – 20 of them with Jackson at the helm.

The Browns, who have not participated in the playoffs since 2002, have lost three consecutive games after a promising start to the season.

And this, as @PFTCommenter notes that the sixth Browns head coach, who was sacked after the second game of the season against the Steelers, scores for the sixth time in a row.

We do not know immediately who will replace Jackson for the rest of the season. The Browns welcome the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Hue Jackson had this and next year on his contract. So the Browns will be contractually obligated towards him until the 2019 season. But Cleveland is now back on the HC market.

Jackson was hired in 2016 by owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, who followed him despite a 1-15 record in his first season and a 16-game loss to the Browns last season.

But beyond the defeats, the Browns have been constantly plunged into Jackson's drama and dysfunction. Last week, his offer to help offensive coordinator, Todd Haley, following a defeat at Tampa Bay, highlighted a new power struggle as Jackson struggled to stay in power.

Jackson's shots came a day after the dismissal of Tyronn Lue, the Cleveland Cavaliers' coach, who had led the team to an NBA title in 2016, but was struggling for his first season without the star LeBron James.
