South Korea won the Overwatch World Cup for the third time in a row. The World Cup is an annual event organized on the sidelines of Blizzcon. It's a showcase for Blizzard trying to sell his upcoming season of the Overwatch League.
The Overwatch World Cup sees the national teams face each other. Since 2016, South Korea has dominated the results and 2018 has not been different. The national team witnessed multiple changes in its final alignment a few days before the event. While the initial list included members of New York Excelsior, the new list featured a more balanced distribution of players. However, the talent of South Korea means that even this list was more than enough against the best national teams.
South Korea did not lose a single card during the event. Their first match was against Australia where they finished in three consecutive cards. Their semifinal match against the United Kingdom was probably the closest match for them. The United Kingdom has managed to connect South Korea on two different maps. However, as South Korea won the Rialto and Nepal, they qualified for the final. MikeyA was very impressive for Britain with his aggressive style of play in DPS. However, it was still missing compared to the Fleta of South Korea.
Fleta's accuracy with Widowmaker and several DPS heroes was simply too difficult for other teams to handle. For South Korea, their best performance comes from their ability to play each other. Regardless of their current team, South Korean players have excellent communication skills. They have a deep understanding of the game and how it should proceed. Managing the ultimate and positioning is what makes South Korea one of the strongest teams on the scene.

South Korea and China represent two opposite ends of season 1. South Korean players and teams such as London Spitfire and New York Excelsior dominated OWL season 1. Chinese players with only Shanghai Dragons as Chinese representative have lost all their season 1 games. Their score from 0 to 40 in Season 1 is a record among the professional teams.
South Korea managed to easily win the first three cards [ Ilios, King’s Row and Temple of Anubis]. Team China managed to fight in the 4th card, Watchpoint: Gibraltar. However, South Korea have managed to win this card in overtime 4: 3. Regardless of their defeat, it is encouraging for Chinese fans to see their team in the grand finale. Supporting player JJonak was the most valuable player in the 2018 Overwatch World Cup.
After a disappointing season 1, the Overwatch League will be joined by several new Chinese teams. Season 2 of the Overwatch league begins in February 2019.
