Sudbury is a little closer to seeing three major construction projects in downtown.
Representatives of the Museum of Sudbury Public Library, the Greater Sudbury Public Library rary and the Synergy Center Citizen Group were present in council chambers and supported the plan.
The three buildings will be located on Minto Street and Elm Street, on the site of the current Sudbury Arena.
Coun. Robert Kirwan says that this kind of momentum and support from the community only happens once in a generation.
"It does not bother me to say, I'm 68, and since I was 20, I was expecting that," Kirwan said.
"This is part of a four or five year transformation period that this city has never known."

Kirwan adds that the reason he might have confidence in the business plan, despite its cost of $ 65 million, "We know we can afford it "We have the capacity, we have the finance department that can put the business case together, and I'm looking forward to seeing that brought to the next step," he said.
"Two years before we start, we have plenty of time to secure funding from other levels of government and other funders."

Taxpayers at their "endgame"
But some advisors are not yet on board,
Citing the $ 65 -million cost, Coun. Michael Vagnini said taxpayers are at their "final game".

Coun. Gerry Montepellier, while endorsing the idea of a new gallery and library, told councilors that he thought the demolition of the old arena would be a mess. "I did not hear anything about this building in poor condition," Montpellier said. "It's demolished because it does not fit the image."
Montpellier said that focusing on the downtown arts district could potentially take away, or at least compete with the $ 100 million Kingsway Entertainment District, which is also developing in the east from the city. In my opinion, the building of the performing arts has never been considered as such at the origin, as we thought.
With the city's approval for the business plan, staff will now delve into the details of the junction, including the specific needs of each building.
