Suspect charged after fires allegedly fired at former Toronto City Hall – Toronto

Toronto police say that a suspect was charged with a fire deliberately installed at the former Toronto City Hall earlier this week.

The arrest comes after the firefighters were called in the southeast corner of the building. at Bay Street and Queen Street West, just past 8 pm Monday,

Authorities reported that three separate fires had triggered the building's sprinkler system. The fires caused about $ 100,000 worth of damage. Several court documents were also damaged.

The building, officially inaugurated in 1899, currently operates as a courthouse of the Court of Justice of Ontario and hears criminal cases

George Powers was arrested Thursday morning. He was charged with break and enter, arson and two charges of non-compliance with probation

Powers is scheduled to appear in the court of former city hall Thursday after- midday.
