Companies that specialize in making smaller SUVs are now making more spacious models and competing for technological features that enhance safety and enjoyment.
Some of the newer models virtually monitor drivers for signs of drowsiness and ensure that children or pets do not accidentally stay inside the car, while others scrutinize the road in front of the driver to adjust the suspension if the driver is about to hit a pothole.

Jeep
The van, unveiled Wednesday at the LA Auto Show, features two rows of seats and a 5-foot-long bed that can carry 4-in-8 drywall sheets or two motocross bikes to full size with folding tailgate.
It is equipped for off-road driving and can tow a Fiat Chrysler 285 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine. A 3-liter diesel engine arrives later. The Gladiator will be on sale in April. The price has not been announced.

Honda Pbadport
Honda calls it the most robust of its light trucks, highlighting its ability to get off the road in difficult conditions, including sand, snow and ice, while remaining comfortable for everyday driving.
The Pbadport is equipped with a 280 horsepower V6 engine and can tow up to 5,000 pounds in AWD.
Honda did not reveal the fuel consumption nor the price.

Mazda 3
Its new design reduces blind spots in the driver's field of vision.
There will also be a new knee airbag for the driver's seat to help reduce leg and chest injuries.
Mazda expects increased fuel economy with the addition of i-ACTIV AWD, but mileage has not yet been released. The award will be announced in early 2019 when it goes on sale in North America.

Lincoln Aviator
The three-row SUV offers a choice of electric gas or hybrid powertrains. The gasoline engine delivers 400 horsepower and the hybrid engine with the Grand Touring option offers 450 horsepower.
Inspired by theft, the car can detect potholes or uneven bumps and adjust the suspension for a smoother ride.
The price and consumption of gasoline have not been published.

The range of the electric vehicle is still determined by battery tests and the results are expected by early 2019. A four-level intelligent recuperative braking system allows drivers to choose to optimize smoothness or efficiency.
