The main difference is that there is no logo "Nintendo Switch" on the face of the fake controller. The plus and minus buttons are also a bit different, but it's harder to spot. Turning the controllers on their backs, we discover that the real version has the logo "Nintendo" embossed on the battery cover, while the wrong version does not. The problem is that both sides can be replaced since the wrong controller uses the same molding as the original. A key difference between the two, the one that is the easiest to identify, the one that is real and the one that is wrong is the battery itself. The real battery carries the "Nintendo" logo as well as a multilingual text at the front and back of the pack. The battery in the fake controller does not have Nintendo branding and has only English text, but the voltage and capacity is the same as the original. One last difference is that the fake controller does not have the HD Rumble feature.
You will not fall on any of the fake controllers if you buy from a big name retail store (Walmart, Target, GameStop, Best Buy, etc.).) These fake controllers are present on online marketplaces like eBay and Amazon, so it's there that you'll have to put your guard. If you choose to buy a Switch Pro Controller on these sites, make sure to take a look at the origin of the list. For example, Nintendo has an official Amazon page. Of course, this also includes a list for genuine Nintendo Switch Pro controllers (which has been slightly reduced, for that matter). If you're buying from a third-party seller, check their seller's history to make sure they're legitimate. Do not buy sources with weak notes.
It only took me a few seconds to find an eBay listing for a fake Switch Pro Controller. It only goes for 23.92 USD, and 30 units were sold according to the current number on the page. It's kind of a dead giveaway that's a fake because of the list titled "Bluetooth Wireless Pro Gamepad Controller", but it seems like a few people have ended up grabbing one anyway. Obviously, avoid them at all costs because they are doomed to collapse.
