Metchosin Coun. Moralea Milne, described by his friends as an outstanding leader and champion of the natural environment, was killed in a traffic collision in Surrey on Saturday. She was 68 years old.
"Today is a very sad day for all those who have known and worked with Moralea, and our thoughts are with his family now," said Metchosin Mayor John Ranns on Monday. She cared a lot about Metchosin and the environment and, in addition to being an exceptional advisor, served her community well in other ways.

Metchosin Coun. Andy MacKinnon said that Milne was a close friend, a model and the person who convinced him to get into municipal politics.
"It's a devastating moment for all of us here," he said. "She has fundamentally changed and determined the way our community is moving in a very, very positive way." Milne announced her in to withdraw from the board at the end of the current term. In 2014, she stated that she was opposed to the merger of Metchosin with other municipalities and always kept an eye on environmental issues.
"The environment is the goal by which I see every decision," she said. "The stewardship shown by so many residents can be further enhanced by incorporating awareness of the environmental consequences into all board decisions."
MacKinnon said the community has a hard time considering life without Milne [19659014]. "In my mind what six people we could string in to try and do the work that this amazing person was doing," he said.
