A cardiologist who treated former President George H. W. Bush was shot by a cyclist in front of Texas Medical Center on Friday.
Police are trying to determine whether Dr. Mark Hausknecht, who was killed by bike to work, was randomly targeted, or deliberately am local time.
"The suspect was also on a bicycle, pbaded by the doctor, shot and fired two shots, and the doctor immediately resigned." said Houston Deputy Police Director, Troy Finner, to the Associated Press.
Hausknecht, 65, dropped an ambulance to ask for help and was taken to the hospital. Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Jim McGrath, spokesman for the Bush family, said that Hausknecht treated Bush for cardiac arrhythmia in 2000, standing next to the former president at at a press conference after successful treatment.
In a statement, Bush paid tribute to the doctor and expressed his condolences to his family.

Police continue their search for the suspect, who fled the scene after crime. He is described as a white or Hispanic man, about 30 years old, wearing a gray warming jacket, a khaki shorts and a beige baseball cap.
"I am really sorry to inform you that Dr. Mark Hausknecht was an important member of the Houston Methodist team and DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, was tragically shot this morning while he was driving on a bicycle to work, "Houston Methodist Hospital said in a statement. "Mark was a leader in the Houston Cardiovascular Associates and specializing in cardiovascular disease.
" He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency and his fellowship at John Hospital Hopkins. He is a long-time doctor affiliated with the Houston Methodists and has been practicing for nearly four decades. "
