Samsung has launched two new phones of the Galaxy A series in China, the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A9, via SamMobile. The Galaxy A9s is simply a Galaxy A9 renowned for the Chinese market. So it remains the same mid-range phone with four cameras at the back. What's more interesting is the Galaxy A6, Samsung's first ODM phone or made by another company. according to The Korea HeraldSamsung had been in talks to outsource the production of its low-end Galaxy phones to the Chinese original design company Wintech, which produces Xiaomi phones.

The Galaxy A6 has two 12MP cameras at the back and a 12MP front camera. The screen is a 1080p Super AMOLED 6-inch screen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chip and has 6 GB of RAM, with storage variants of 64 and 128 GB. The price starts at 1,800 CNY, which is about 260 USD, but the phone will probably be available only In China at the moment.

The two new phones represent a shift in Samsung's strategy to boost sales in China and India, as the company struggles to compete with Chinese phone makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi. According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung holds less than 1% of the Chinese market share, which has led Samsung to consider closing one of its two factories in China, while more and more, ODM companies are expected to reduce their manufacturing costs.

Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh also recently said CNBC that the company was changing its strategy to "bring technology and points of differentiation from mid-term", rather than starting with the flagship model. The Galaxy A9s is the latest example. If the Galaxy A6 is doing well in China, other ODM phones could be on the way.
