Awami National Party leader (ANP) Haroon Bilour and 11 others were martyred and 35 others wounded in a bomb attack in a crowded neighborhood of Peshawar shortly before midnight Tuesday
The explosion occurred near Bilour's vehicle, son of the late leader of the ANP, Bashir Bilour, in the Yakatoot region. The wounded were taken to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where doctors confirmed the death toll. Protests were also observed at the hospital against the blast.
Bashir Bilour was also martyred in a suicide bombing aimed at his rally in the legendary Qissa Khawani bazaar in Peshawar in December 2012. The proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Haroon Bilour was approaching the rally held as part of his election campaign on Circular Road when the blast took place.

. Condemning the attack, the leader of the ANP, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, called it a peak. of terrorism, saying that it is targeting the democratic system that is derailing in the country. It's a plot to delay the next general election, he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC), Sardar Muhammad Raza, strongly condemned the attack. "This shows the weakness of our security institutions and a conspiracy against transparent elections," he said in a statement.
Last week, a Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) candidate, Malik Sherein, and his six sympathizers were injured in a bomb in the southern Bannu district. Sherein's convoy was attacked while he was crossing the Takhti Khel region in the PK-89 constituency as part of the party's election campaign.
The party leader's vehicle was badly damaged during the attack. The wounded were transferred to the hospital headquarters. Initial reports revealed that the explosives were planted on a motorcycle that exploded on the convoy's trajectory.

Other politicians who face security threats are the former chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP), Akram Durrani and Ameer Haider Hoti. Durrani belongs to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam while Hoti belongs to the ANP.
Talha Saeed, a son of the chief of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Hafiz Saeed who is contesting the election on the platform of Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek, is also named among those who face threats.
