The photographer whose photo of a fight in Yosemite National Park sparked a viral search, said he found the mystery couple.
Matthew Dippel was preparing to photograph a friend at Taft Point in Yosemite earlier this month, when he saw a man kneel down to make a proposal to a woman.
He did not see any other photographers in the area, so he took a picture of the moment to give to the couple.
Dippel ran to find them, but they were gone when he got there.
"I just pbaded in front of their friends that they had with them," he said.
Dippel was in the middle of a car trip, but he posted the photo on social media when he returned home to Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 17th.
The messages have been shared thousands of times by people around the world.
Charlie Bear told HLN that he and his now fiancée Melissa had stumbled on the message posted on Instagram last week.
"At first, I was not really sure we were honest," Bear said. But they compared Dippel's photo with pictures they had taken to make sure of it.
At first, Dippel was a little skeptical because he had received tons of messages from people claiming to be the couple, so he asked them to prove it.
"They sent me to the iPhone screen shots of some of their friends who were standing that day, they carry exactly the same thing and the photos are stamped on the same day and at the same time. the same time as me, "Dippel said. "It fit perfectly with Charlie and Melissa."
Dippel said that he was still working on the details to get a copy of the photo.
Bear said that it was actually their second proposal. He had asked in February, but wanted something personal, it would be memorable for them.
Mission accomplished.
"Even though it was the second time, I was as nervous as the first time and I was even more nervous about being at the top of the cliff," said Bear. "I'm afraid of heights, and I've somehow overcome that for her."
They are now planning a wedding in April in Malibu, California.
