The Toronto Raptors have no chance of competing for Kawhi Leonard

No matter how many reports indicate that the Toronto Raptors have a chance with Kawhi Leonard, they will not get it for a simple reason – he does not want to join them.

Zach Lowe of ESPN recently wrote that the Toronto Raptors could be a wild card in the pursuit of Kawhi Leonard. Lowe suggested a package including one from DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry, a young player and a first draft pick.

Certainly, you imagine that the San Antonio Spurs would at least be open to discussing such an offer. They would prefer that Leonard finds himself in the Eastern Conference rather than staying in the West, where they should face him more often.

In the end, the Raptors will not be able to sign the defensive NBA twice. Player of the year for a simple reason. He has no interest in moving to Toronto

Everyone knows that Leonard prefers to be traded to the Lakers or Clippers. A big part of the reason is that he has a home in Los Angeles.

However, even though the 2014 NBA MVP has considered going to the Eastern Conference, only one team seems to have a chance. And it's not the Raptors.

According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, the only East Leonard team would be willing to seriously consider the Philadelphia 76ers. Haynes made his comments on The Jump, during their live coverage of the Summer League in Las Vegas.

You can understand why the choice of the 15th choice of 2011 would be interesting for the 76ers. They have had their best regular season since 2000-01 and have a young and talented team that should continue to improve.

In theory, the Spurs still have some control over Leonard and could trade with the 76ers, whether he agrees or not. However, this is compromised by the fact that there is only one season left to the player before he can become a free agent. (He has a player option for the 2019-20 season, but he would refuse that.)

In addition, how much would the 76ers be willing to give up for a player who might leave for nothing? Next summer? The reality is that the Spurs are stuck between a rock and a hard place, with Leonard having so many voices in his future.

And that's why, no matter how much Raptors fans want to dream of a lineup including the two-time All-Star, it does not come to Toronto. (Although I have absolutely no problem to be proved entirely wrong.)
