According to the Crown, Downey killed Sara because she was trying to break the relationship between AB and help her stay away from life as an escort.

Sara's body was found in her basement suite in northwestern Calgary on July 11, 2016. She was crammed into a laundry basket and hidden in Taliyah's closet, the court said on Monday.

"Tape was wrapped around Sara's head, face and neck," MacPhail said.

The Court heard that Sara's wrists were tied and that her neck, face and body were bruised.

MacPhail stated that fingerprints had been found on tape that bound Sara.

"They were made by Mr. Downey's left index," said MacPhail.

An autopsy revealed that she had died of asphyxiation.

After the discovery of Sara's body, an Amber Alert from Alberta was activated for her missing daughter.

MacPhail said that a Calgary police badyst had used pings from the cell tower to map Downey's movements.

It is a map from this data that led the police to find Taliyah's body three days later, just outside the city limits.

His tiny body was thrown into bushes.

The Crown said that was their theory. Taliyah's badbadin took her and murdered her because she witnessed her mother's death.

The trial is scheduled for three weeks.
