The ice made Regina's streets and sidewalks treacherous on Wednesday, but they also took Darwin Mott on a memorable childhood trip to Creelman, Saskatchewan.
"Growing up in a small town, there was a strange early spring that would freeze afterwards and you'd have a perfect rink," said Mott.
"We had the impression that it would happen again this morning, so I thought I would try it and that 's what I found. Evratz Place does not. could not have flooded the ice better. "
Mott, who played professional hockey in the 1970s, tied his blades and went skating on the sidewalk.
A young man who was pbading took a video that was then posted on Facebook.
Done before
"I did it last January, conditions were similar, but I did not take the phone with me and I never really captured it," he said.
"Thank God, there was a good Samaritan [who agreed to take the video] walk in the church parking lot in front of us. "
Make the buzz
When the video was posted on Facebook, she became viral. He has collected over 60,000 views.
Mott still skates regularly, but he may have to bring his blades to the store before leaving.
"They may have to be sharp again, but it will be fine, it was worth it," he said.
