SYDNEY, NS – Nova Scotia Power faces multiple failures in Cape Breton this morning, attributed to wind and winter conditions.
The largest outages are in northern Cape Breton, where they include Wreck Cove, Pleasant Bay, Meat Cove Neils Harbor and all intermediate points.
The outage that affects more than 2,100 customers was reported for the first time at 4 am this morning and has an estimated 11 hour recovery time this morning.
Another major outage is just outside Port Hawkesbury and includes areas of Glendale, West Bay and others. An estimated 548 customers are affected by Nova Nova Power's breakdown of wind and snow.
Breakdowns have also been reported around Glace Bay, New Waterford, Sydney Forks, Christmas Island, Victoria County, Port Hood and many other areas affecting approximately 3,300 customers.
According to utilities, more than 12,000 customers are powerless after heavy and rainy snow, while rain and high winds continue to sweep the province.
Nova Scotia Power today employs more than 500 storm response personnel, including power line technicians, forestry crews, damage badessors, engineers, wiring inspectors, maintenance engineers, and more. security, customer service staff, planners and supervisors.
Crews will begin to restore power as soon as they can safely do so. However, when winds are gusty at more than 80 km / h, they will have to make on-site badessments of whether their safety is guaranteed.
