Three dead, a baby injured after a head-on collision near Tomkins, Sask.

Alcohol was thought to be a factor in a traffic accident that killed three people and injured a baby on Highway 1 just east of Tomkins, Saskatchewan

The RCMP received reports around 8:10 pm CST Monday, about a vehicle traveling at high speed and the wrong side of the highway, according to a press release.

About five minutes later, the RCMP received a call about an accident involving a head in two vehicles.

A 66 year old man from Gull Lake, suspected of driving in the wrong way, was declared dead on the scene.

The other vehicle contained three people, all from the same family. The 27-year-old driving woman and her 62-year-old pbadenger, both from Shaunavon, were declared dead on the scene. An infant was also in the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with injuries allegedly not putting his life in danger.

Alcohol is thought to have played a key role in waiting for toxicological results.

The investigation continues with the help of the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Tompkins is about 75 kilometers southwest of Swift Current.
