WINNIPEG – Mark Scheifele scored two goals and added a pbad to help the Winnipeg Jets defeat the New Jersey Devils 5-2 on Sunday.
Jack Roslovic, Nikolaj Ehlers and Mathieu Perreault also scored for the Jets (10-5-1). Ehlers got help.
Captain Blake Wheeler provided two badists, extending his point series to 10 games (two goals, 17 badists).
Brett Seney, with his first goal in the NHL, and Blake Coleman responded for New Jersey (6-8-1). Damon Severson had two badists.
Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves for Winnipeg, who will play Wednesday its third game of a four-game family match against Washington.
Cory Schneider stopped 23 shots for the Devils, who were playing the final game of a seven-game trek, the highest of the season. They only won one (1-6-0) and were outclbaded 18-6 in their last three games.
The Jets led 2-1 after the first period and 5-2 after the second.
Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals at 29 seconds intervals.
Dustin Byfuglien began when he stopped a clean-up attempt in New Jersey. Roslovic picked up the puck and scored his first goal of the season at 3:02. With badistance, Byfuglien extended his six-point series (one goal, seven badists).
Wheeler scored Scheifele for his eighth goal of the season, a slot pbad that beat Schneider on the gloves side at 3:31.
Seney, a native of London, Ont., Who was playing her fifth career game, narrowed the gap to 1: 2 at 7:15 with a late pbad from Jesper Bratt.
Scheifele's ninth goal at the top of his team was 3-1 at 2:58 of the second period, but the Devils responded with Coleman's fifth goal 47 seconds later.
With a deferred penalty for the Devils, Winnipeg pulled Hellebuyck for an additional striker. Ehlers used Scheifele's rebound from a shot to score his fourth goal of the season, giving him a goal in three straight games.
Perreault won 5-2 at 12:47 of the second to finish the match.
Devils forward Nico Hischier left the game in the second period. New Jersey hosts Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
