It took a few more months, but Barry Trotz finally got his Stanley Cup ring.
The New York Islanders coach, who led the Washington Capitals to their first title in 2018, received his captain's ring from the Capitals Alex Ovechkin in the locker room before Washington's 4-1 win over New York at Barclays Center on Monday.

Associate Islanders coach Lane Lambert and goaltending coach Mitch Korn, who was on the Trotz staff in Washington, also received his ring before the match.
Trotz, Lambert and Korn coached together in Washington from 2014 to 2014, helping the Capitals reach the Stanley Cup playoffs each season. Trotz resigned from his coaching position in Washington on June 18 and was hired by New York three days later.
"Four years of good memories," said Trotz in addressing capitals in the visitor's locker room Monday. "The work you've done, the friendships we've made, the incredible things we've done together, last a lifetime."
Trotz told players that they are able to repeat as champions. "You will have to pbad [the Islanders], "he said with a smile," but you can do it again too. "
The Capitals and Islanders are rivals of the Metropolitan Division, but Trotz said he would have a hard time hating Washington.
"It will be really hard not to love you," he says. "It's really, because you're still a family."
After the match, Trotz said about his speech to the Capitals: "It's special, I thanked them for all those wonderful memories that will last a lifetime for me … you're a young boy …" looking forward to meetings to get all the good stories, i just told them, i said that there was always a special place in my heart with this group, and i hope to do the same thing with this group so that they can experience it.
"That's what we build."
