This investigation is not without difficulty, said the TSB, as accidents involving multiple aircraft are more complicated to investigate than accidents with a single aircraft.

Beverley Harvey, TSB principal investigator, said having two different aircraft in two different locations with two different pilots, one of whom is deceased, adds many variables to the incident. Harvey said the TSB was hoping to release a report in about a year.

The TSB has both planes in its possession and says that the Cessna is at his laboratory, while the Piper is still at Carp Airport.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the pilot of the surviving aircraft had arrived at Carp Airport at the time of the collision.
