US police officer, spectator dies from gunshot wounds

BOSTON – A Mbadachusetts police officer and a witness died Sunday of injuries sustained when a suspect allegedly took the officer's gun and shot after a car accident and a foot pursuit [19659005] Michael Chesna, officer of Weymouth Sunday, and died from an injury at South Shore Hospital, authorities said that an unidentified elderly woman died after being touched by bullets lost in a neighboring house, according to the authorities

. Richard Grimes said that the suspect, Emanuel Lopes, aged 20, was in custody

Weymouth is located about 26 kilometers south of Boston on the south shore of the island.

The suspect crashed into a car, fled the scene and was found by Chesna to have vandalized a house. Prosecutors say that's when he attacked Chesna with a rock in his head. Chesna fell to the ground, and officials say, Lopes took the officer's rifle and shot Chesna several times in the head and chest.

Lopes then escaped and fired more shots during a chase. Police say that one of those shots hit the woman at her home.

Lopes was injured in the leg while he was arrested and hospitalized at South Shore Hospital. He will be charged with two counts of homicide Monday, at his bedside or in court.

Grimes described Chesna as a 42-year-old woman. Chesna was originally from Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1994.

"I hired Mike Chesna six years ago tomorrow," Grimes said.

Grimes said that he had spoken to Chesna's mother and she said that her son joined the army "to open the doors to get this job."
