A resident of Okanagan was the big winner of a huge 50/50 hockey jackpot Tuesday night.
Gordon Schimpf of West Kelowna won half the jackpot in the Vancouver NHL game between the Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings in Vancouver. The jackpot was estimated at $ 1,413,630, while Schimpf won $ 706,815.
According to the Canucks, the jackpot would be the world record for the biggest 50/50 draw. Schimpf bought the winning ticket online on Canucks.com.

Funds raised from the 50/50 jackpot will support the Canucks Autism Network, Canuck Place Children's Hospice and the BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Tickets for the 50/50 draw went on sale on November 20th. The Canucks for Kids Fund organizes 50 to 50 sweepstakes at each home game and fans attending the match can buy at the arena or at home by visiting canucks.com/online5050.
The $ 1.4 million jackpot was made possible by Ascend FS, which guaranteed a minimum prize of $ 500,000 for the 50-50 draw winner.
