LYTTON (NEWS 1130) – A forest fire that burns outside Lytton is still causing slowdowns along Highway 1.
The fire that is spreading north of Spences Bridge resulted in the complete stop of the road. It is now open to alternate lane traffic with the help of a pilot car along the highway.
The 80-hectare fire is about 5 km northeast of the Spences Bridge and has about 100 people.
"It's still hot in the Fraser Canyon and we're under a high pressure ridge. This means that there is no rush in sight, "says Michael Kuss NEWS meteorologist 1130.
He adds that no strong wind is expected, which is good news, but "downside temperatures"
Meanwhile, about 900 families in Okanagan are still in a state of alert because of the province's largest wildfire. Mt. Eneas fire is now around 1,800 hectares, burning between Peachland and Summerland.
Closer to home, a high estimate of fire danger means that smoking and outdoor burning are now banned in the parks, Port Coquitlam, as the dry heat continues.
