Environment Canada has issued a wind alert for east Vancouver Island from Courtenay to Campbell River and from Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay.
A strong low pressure system in the Pacific is expected to result in southeasterly winds of up to 70 km / h along exposed coastal areas tonight and after midnight.
The winds are expected to abate and move south-west in gusts, continuing until Sunday morning.
TWind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of high winds, likely to throw loose objects or break tree branches.
