A wind warning was issued for Calgary and other areas of southern Alberta on Friday night after violent storms in central Alberta prompted Environment Canada to issue violent storm warnings and even tornadoes for this part of the province. Severe thunderstorms in central Alberta have created a powerful gusting front that is moving south, away from thunderstorms, "the weather agency said on its website Friday night. At 9:00 pm, the Environment Canada Web site presented the following. Air Quality Index (CAS) Reading for Calgary was ranked 7 or "high risk".
When the Air Quality Health Index reaches a "high risk", people in the affected areas must take precautions.
"Children and seniors should also take," adds Environment Canada. "Consider reducing or rescheduling outside physical activity if you experience symptoms such as coughing and irritation of the throat."
