Young man disappeared after swimming at Buntzen Lake

Crew members resumed their search for a 19-year-old Surrey resident who disappeared while swimming with friends in Buntzen Lake on Tuesday.

The young man's friends called the police after he disappeared from view around 16:30. They said that he told them that he was returning to the shore, but no one saw him reach the ground.

According to family members, the missing man is not a good swimmer.

Dozens of RCMP officers and members of Coquitlam Search and Rescue operations swept the area until nightfall and resumed operations Wednesday morning

A RCMP diving team should also join the search.

The teams closed Buntzen Lake to the public. until the research effort is completed.

There are fears that the incident could mark the second drowning this week in the region. On Monday, a 21-year-old man from Toronto disappeared while swimming in Golden Ears Provincial Park and was found dead the next morning.
