While Wear OS has fallen out of favor for some, it’s still used on some of Casio’s rugged smartwatches. Today, the brand is extending Wear OS to one of its iconic lines, the Casio G-Shock.
Casio today announced the GSW-H1000-1ER, a “G-SQUAD PRO” smartwatch that runs Google’s Wear operating system. This watch is part of the range of “shock resistant” Casio watches known as G-Shock which are often used in scenarios where they are taken to the extreme in terms of elements and movements.
The new Casio G-Shock smartwatch with Wear OS packs in a thick case and a touchscreen. This screen is also a dual monochrome option that allows the watch to turn off the power-hungry main screen to save battery power. It has an optical heart rate sensor, compass, altitude / atmospheric pressure sensor, accelerometer, gyrometer, GPS, “and more”.
Designed to offer all the unique and original impact resistance of a G-SHOCK, as well as water resistance, the GSW-H1000 also includes a microphone, charging station and more. Even using glass thick enough to provide 200 meters of water resistance, the screen still facilitates smooth touch control. The titanium caseback provides excellent corrosion resistance and features a titanium carbide finish for better abrasion resistance.
The watch works with Google Fit, of course, but can also be used with Casio’s “G-SHOCK MOVE” app for additional training and tracking options.
The GSW-H1000 will be available in May in the US and UK, but it comes at a steep price. You will pay $ 700 in the US to participate in the action or £ 600 in the UK.
