Casper College announces its next theater season

CASPER, Wyo – Casper College’s theater and dance season has begun. They have two musicals, a dance concert, and a fun play.

According to Lisa Icenogle, the first musical of the season is “Mama Mia”. A classic musical depicting a girl’s dream of meeting her biological father before her wedding. The story is chained together with a series of songs from ABBA. Icenogle points out that the musical is directed by “guest Kurt Stamm, a professional director / choreographer / producer based in New York and Colorado.”

Stamm has directed a few plays over the years for Casper College, including “Anything Goes”, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Chicago”. “Mama Mia” will be a great addition to her Casper legacy as well as a great musical for the Casper community. You can attend this play from October 14-16 and 20-23.

Their next musical is “Narnia”. The musical is adapted from the classic books by CS Lewis Chronicles of Narnia. This production will only be on the McMurry Mainstage for one week from November 30 to December 1. It will feature the main characters of the book, as well as the magical creatures. The hope will be to bring this story to life for the holiday season.

Arron Woods will create a completely original dance concert to kick off the 2022 season. It will be called “Shadowed Winds and Ghost Roads” and will be inspired by the ghost towns and highways of Wyoming. “Through a narrator’s word and the interweaving of dance, theater and multimedia elements, performers will guide audiences through the intersectionality of place and time,” said Woods. The production will be presented from February 23 to 26 and from March 3 to 5.

Finally, “Noises Off”, which was scheduled for 2020 but has been canceled due to COVID-19, is scheduled for April 21-23 and 27-30. This funny play tells the story of a group of actors trying to put together a play. It shows some difficulties that can arise when trying to set up a production too quickly. It’s “a crazy farce” according to Chontelle Gray, president of the theater, dance and music departments.
