Cassadaga will be a busy place for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, which begins Saturday with “CassadagaMan.”
It’s not for the faint of heart and includes a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and 13.1 mile run. It all starts at Cassadaga Beach on Park Avenue at 8 a.m. Register or volunteer at www.coachmarkwilson.com. This event attracted participants from across the country and has over 165 participants. Even if you don’t want to participate, spectators are welcome to join in the excitement. There will be live music and food on the beach most of the day.
On Sunday, the Farmers’ Market will be held at Ames Common from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Roberto Fred offers a large selection of fresh produce, baked goods, preserves and honey. At 4:30 p.m., there will be a boat parade sponsored by the Cassadaga Lakes Association. Any floating vessel is invited to participate. The theme is “Super hero.” There will be prizes.
Participants are to meet at the DEC launch on Dale Drive at 4:15 p.m. Viewers can view the parade all along Dale Drive, Lakeview Avenue, parts of Maple Avenue, however, the best place to view the parade is Cassadaga Beach on Park Avenue. At Cassadaga Beach at 5:00 p.m. there is a free concert on the floating stage. BIG TONE will entertain audiences on land and on the lake with classic rock, R&B, blues and whatever floats on their boat that day.
Wilson Endurance Sports is sponsoring this concert. Super Duper Catering will be ashore along with local author Amanda Vink with an action-packed book – “Marjorie Hart and the Tree of Life.” Local artist Mark Hawkins will be there with his beautiful sea glass jewelry and paintings. Lifeguards will be on duty for the last time this summer. Parking is limited at the beach, so please park at the nearby church, library or fire station if you are able to make the short walk.
On Monday, there will be a craft and vendor exhibit at Ames Common from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bubba’s Food Wagon will also be present. This show is sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga.
At 11 a.m., there will be a large parade on Maple Avenue. This “Labor of love” will include several marching bands, marching units, fire trucks and much more! This is expected to be the biggest parade to hit Cassadaga in many years! Sponsors include the Village of Cassadaga, Citizens for a Better Cassadaga, Cassadaga Lakes Association and generous community members. At noon, the Ducky Derby will take place at the Maple Avenue Bridge. To purchase ducks, call or text 716 410-0673 or go to ShurFine. This is the annual fundraiser of the Cassadaga Lakes Association.
At 1:45 am, from Cassadaga Beach is the dice run / bike race. Registration at 1:15 p.m. ($ 2 children, $ 5 adults). Roll or walk around the lake and roll the dice at five stations with cash prizes. This event is sponsored by Citizens for a Better Cassadaga.
