CLEVELAND – A beloved member of the Cleveland Cavaliers has announced that this season would be his last.

Cavs forward Channing Frye confirmed Friday that after the 2018-2019 season, he would retire from the NBA.

Rumors that Frye was considering retirement came after he posted a picture on Instagram after the match against Cavs against the New York Knicks, claiming that it was about his last participation in Madison Square Garden.

"Playing MSG for the last time last night reminded me how fast time has passed," Frye said in his message.

Frye then went on Twitter Friday night to confirm his retirement, thanking his coaches and teammates and expressing his enthusiasm for what will follow after the NBA.

Frye, 35, was traded to the Cavaliers in 2016 and was part of the team's NBA Championship race and consecutive trips to the NBA finals.

In 2018, the Cavaliers traded Frye, with Isaiah Thomas and a first-round pick in 2018, against the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr.

On July 19, 2018, Frye returned to Cleveland to sign with the Cavs after finishing his season with the Lakers.

"I'm going to miss it, but I'm really excited to see the other side of the fence," tweeted Frye.

Although Frye plays a lesser role this season with the Cavs, averaging just 9.5 minutes and 3.3 ppg, he's been a veteran rookie voice and more recent additions to the team.

If the Cavs do not finish the season with a playoff spot, Frye's final match will take place on April 9 at the Quicken Loans Arena against the Charlotte Hornets.
