Disassembly of Samsung Galaxy S10 confirms UFS 2.1 storage while Galaxy Fold supports UFS 3.0

There are only five days left before the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 + and S10e are on sale in the United States, Europe, India and other markets around the world. In terms of internal hardware, the phones come in two variants: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 variant for the United States / China / Latin America and an Exynos 9820 variant for the rest of the world. One thing we did not know up to now was the phone storage specification. Samsung uses UFS storage from the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the company's 2018 phones used the UFS 2.1 NAND standard. Last year, some rumors claimed that the Galaxy S10 series would have a UFS 3.0 storage, but TechInsights' technical dismantling reveals that the rumor did not fail.

TechInsights has taken a disassembly of the Exynos Samsung Galaxy S10 + (SM-G975F). The company has discovered that neither the Galaxy S10 + nor the Galaxy S10 have UFS 3.0 storage. This specification is reserved for the moment to the very high-end Samsung Galaxy Fold, which will be released in April. Notably, Samsung's official Galaxy Folder table specifically encourages the inclusion of UFS 3.0 storage, while the Galaxy S10's official specifications table does not mention the UFS specifications of the phone.

TechInsights says the company has discovered that the Galaxy S10 phones have the same Samsung KLUDG4U1EA-B0C1, a 128GB UFS 2.1 NAND also present in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, as well as in many other phones.

Predictably, UFS 3.0 delivers faster performance than UFS 2.1. The new 512GB eUFS 3.0 NAND (February 2019) announced by Samsung offers sequential read speeds of up to 2100 MB / s (x2.10), sequential write speeds up to 410 MB / s (x1.58) ), random read speeds of 63,000 IOPS (x1.09), and random write speeds of 68,000 IOPS (x 1.36). These figures are faster than the last NAND eUFS 2.1 (January 2019) 1 TB. They can be compared in the table below.
