CDC Confirms Data Leaks On Delta Variant

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – A leaked CDC report in the form of a slideshow contains data on the Delta variant that health experts say is cause for concern.

Data from the CDC shows that vaccinated individuals can still contract the Delta variant and pass the virus on to others, even if the vaccinated individual is asymptomatic.

“They can still acquire it and even if they don’t develop any symptoms or disease because they are protected by their vaccine, the risk is that they have the virus in their body and they can spread it to their entourage. Said DHEC medical consultant Dr Jonathan Knoche.

Data suggests that unvaccinated people can also get more serious illness. Children under 12 are considered a risk group because they cannot yet be vaccinated.

Doctors are concerned about the variant because data shows it to be more contagious. A person with a previous strain of COVID, such as the Alpha variant, could infect an average of one to three people. Doctors say it’s the same infection rate as the common cold.

However, a person with the Delta variant can infect eight or nine people on average. This is the same infection rate as chickenpox.

Doctors say the best way to avoid serious infection, hospitalization, and death is to get the vaccine. Dr Helmut Albrecht, infectious disease expert at Prisma Health, says only unvaccinated people have serious illness in his clinic. He says the best way to prevent serious illness is to get vaccinated.

“We want your immune system, when you encounter the real virus, we want it to be formed, and we want to train it safely, and the training is called vaccinating,” Albrecht said.

Preliminary data from the CDC explains why the department updated the mask recommendations saying that everyone should wear a mask indoors in public situations, regardless of immunization status.
