CDC study shows single dose of Pfizer or Moderna Covid vaccine to be 80% effective

A single dose of Pfizer or Moderna Covid-19 vaccine was 80% effective in preventing coronavirus infections, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of vaccinated health workers.

The effectiveness of the partial vaccination was seen two weeks after the first dose, according to the CDC, which examined nearly 4,000 healthcare workers, first responders and frontline workers between December 14 and March 13. was released on Monday, had no previous lab documentation on the Covid-19 infection.

Two doses are better than one, federal health officials said, adding that the vaccine’s effectiveness jumped to 90% two weeks after the second dose.

“These results indicate that licensed COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are effective in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection, regardless of symptom status, in working-age adults under real conditions,” the US agency wrote in the study. “COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for all eligible people.”

The CDC’s new findings are likely to strengthen arguments by some health experts and public health officials that the United States should prioritize Americans a single dose of vaccine before moving to second doses, thereby speeding up the pace of vaccinations across the country.

Unlike the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires one dose, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two injections given three to four weeks apart. White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr Anthony Fauci has repeatedly said in recent months that the United States should stick to the two-dose regimen.
